Shooting Dad by Sarah Vowell

The reading, "Shooting Dad", by Vowell is a settling dispute of prolonged political differences. Her father a gun driven republican, with the enthusiasm of heavy artillery. He's the patriotic symbol of her life, while she takes the less and more logical and reasonable rode of the democratic party. Against the beliefs of her fathers political choices, the love, the sole purpose of being excepted by the creator, the man that gave her life, she puts aside her own political guard. She chooses to be apart of her fathers live rather than vanquish it because of the virtuous differences and realizes that big oppositions carry small similarities.

Mother of the Year by Paul Theroux

"Big family", had the same ring for me as "savage tribes", Theroux, notes that their was a notion between the composed words, that they held a reflection, this idea involved the family in the story, but an opinion portrayed by main character, J.P. Protagonist of the story is the symbol of analysis, for he goes through the hardship of a neglecting mother, the family hatred that his brothers and sisters were born to be corrupted with, only to be the one that understands the person that he was raised by through years of tolerant abuse "the matriarch of a big happy family", the family J.P was forced to be inhabited in was a disordered, malfunctioned, dishonest, and in this case, women controlled which explains the deceiving mother. A mother is someone that can provide you with undivided care, food, love, and in certain cases wealth, but none of this attributes fell upon J.P's, for she was one against ideas of family support and everything that it stood for.

Boys and Girls by Alice Munro

This short story written by, Alice Munro, is a great read. The life of a young girl, under the confusion of muscilinity, seeks to reach more to the graces of manly work and pushs away the kind and less repelling oudors of women work. The young girl, excieted and curious, worked under disgusting conditions of blood and gore, side by side with her father. She continues working, misunderstanding conversations from her father, for instance; "like to have you meet my new hired hands", she drew on to a misinterpreted fact, assume that her dad viewed her much more than a girl, but never absolutely a boy. The fact that her mother would speak to her about her life to show her a sense of relation that she might have one day with the relavent stories. Rather, her father kept words of his life to himself, but only because it's unlike for a girl to know about the crazy things her father might have done. I speak for all of us, as a man, I did not have a choice to help my father or not with outside chores, it was something that I can only do because of the fact that my body is more biologically powerful than my sister. Being raised under the inhabitance of man and his jobs, would never garantee a switch in the preestablished brian of a young girl to end up liking everything a boy would. Unfortunately for the young girl in the story, as she got older, the recorded conversation of her mother and feminist advice her grandmother gave her sunk in, she began to unfold her innerself as the socially constructed girl type.

From the War Against Boys by Christina Hoff Sommers

Writer, Sommers, did a great job on balancing the differential ideas of writers, Pollack, Pipher, and Gilligon, by mixing up her own work, how men are increasingly falling in disruptive and emotional identity or in her words "substantial rise in male distress". Sommers, varies many types of theories about male and female gender out comes based on the "patriarchal culture" and social constructionist". However, the fact is that they remain as theories and the solid proof would be based on the nurture that male or female might have encountered through young childhood life. Surprisingly, Sommers takes a different direction to write that if we adsorb everything that, Pollack, Pipher, and Gilligon wrote, then we might as well assume that the United States is diving down devastation. Not every adult male is in a state of crisis nor girl or boy in disorder by social rejection, Statistics show more improvement in women with school, and decreasing mediocre levels for men, but the probability of whether they become filled with issues an unstable problems can only be decided by chance.

Why Boys Don't Play with Dolls by Kath Pollitt

Can you give your son a doll to play with? Would you give your daughter an action figure? Kath Pollitt, stands in the viewing point that boys and girls playing with vice verse toys or activities cant harm the way they might be heterosexually raised. For instance, a boy playing with dolls should not be identify as "gay", but rather just simply a boy playing with dolls. On the other hand, because of society's social dividing judgment, the idea of girls and boys being raised on different agendas, boys using knitting kits and girls playing with trucks, is out of the question. Unfortunately a, girl can't play guy sports or like guy activities because she'll be demographically viewed as a "tom-boy". But the gaped difference that a doll holds is large as opposed to boy toys, rather than it simply being just a common toy, the doll holds strict mean, advertised with little girls playing with it , so therefor made for only girls to play with. The ideas a boy or girl picks up through life have a major impact, parents believe that they should be the only ones to be understood with no questions asked, but a growing and curious mind of a child feeds off the floating language of what teachers might say or friends and family. The outcome of boy habits being adsorbed by girls and vice verse, aren't fully depended on the parents but none the less carry most of the responsibility, but however it may as well be unpredictable.

Inside the World of Boys by William Pollack

Back in High School, teasing was common to everyone, whether you were a boy or girl. Pollack, points out that boys hide emotions based on " a facade of confidence and bravado", which means they show an outside appearance to hide the inside low self-esteem and self worth, to avoid insults and gain popularity acceptance. This can often become the cause decreasing grades, poor participation and people skills according to, Pollack. Now, I don't fully agree with Pollack, because their have been many times that issues with boy's bad behavior and emotional guarding arise with problems at home or other factors such as; girls or sports.

Reviving Ophelia by Mary Pipher

In this social cultural passage about women identities and their affected lives caused by interaction with family, friends, peers, and others etc..., Mary Pipher, writes about the up coming and involvements that young women encounter through their mere teen years. Now, I'm not a girl nor can I explain anything that a girl or young women goes through in the years that identifies who she becomes, but Pipher, However, reveals that the young teen girls are diverse into certain status, such as; popular, rejected, strong, and weakling-corrupted. In the passage, the strong girl is the one that can over look certain situations and drives for an independence for herself.  The strong ones are not just genuinely strong but rather indirect, the ways to find a sense of strong hold or direction is through some family, friends, or even books or sports. The other category of girls either find a way out of the conceited attitude, or unfortunately vanish through life with ignorance and no stable abilities to help themselves. Pipher, uses one of her clinical patients, June, as a motivating drive for women with the obstacles of being rejected, not having hope, or feeling self conscious of themselves. In this part of the passage , June, speaks of the troubles that fazed with her dad and High school peers in. June, is a great person and the fact that she took in her mothers love to be an inspiration and a focus to look beyond judgment and neglect.

Shitty First Drafts by Anne Lamott

Anne Lomatt's, strategy and obstacles she faces, during the process of writing a first draft for any occasion, is common to any writer. I agree that no one, not even the best writers can sit down and lay out a five star master piece nor write more than a single line, without first having to go through some trouble. In any case, writing anything at all with impulsion can be a help to developing a dim point that can be transformed to something more indulging. William Stafford, says " One implication is the importance of just plain receptivity", what he's trying to say is, as a writer you should be ready to accept everything around you as a essential part of what you lay down on paper. The uniqueness of this is process is that only the person writing can view things a certain way, that even if someone else would take place with the same action, they would not be able to see things the same. Strange as it maybe, Lomatt's, process is quite similar to that of , Stafford's, for she lets everything that clogs her mind sink in. Her advice to, "write it down, even if it's stupefied, then straighten it up, finally polish it" is pretty comprehensible and easy to follow.

How to Write a Critical Analysis by John Trimble

Critically analyzing involves the ability to perceive what you read whether it's a story, poem, or play. You look for the intentions that lead you to "why, or how", something happens. I say "intentions" because the write formulates certain reasons for the character (s) to do critical things that keep the interest in there roles alive. When you amplify those reasons you get a better understanding of the actions they take. Critical analysis is also round by the ability to hold strong points with evidence. John Trimble, notes "unlike the mechanical plot summarize, you will always be using those details to demonstrate a point". Looking beyond the book and basing  the experience of reading it on the way it kept you interested is also a form to help you write a critical analysis. The point of a Critical Analysis paper is to have the reader comprehend better something they know or should know. So don't leave them with gaped ideas, fill in deeper and help the reader understand more clear.

All Things Considered by Zadie Smith

The words I write on paper or on a computer are the significance of what I feel and how I believe it. They way i compose the beginning, middle, end of an essay or story defines my capability my knowledge my strength and weakness my emotions and who I am. Zadie Smith, author of ,"Changing My Mind", notes that "I think that novels should feel necessary to the people who write them", what she's trying to say is that the literature or text should carry a great significance so that it reflects hand to hand or words to image for the reader. To compose something meanings to create out of what you're given, without imagination you can't write fiction, without fact you can't base anything on a true story, and without life you can't create a story with any meaning.

Simplicity by William Zinsser

I'm not a fan of reading and one of the main reasons why is because of the exaggerated word choice that most writers have. William Zinsser, author of the passage "Simplicity", argues that most writers need to take the time to consider their readers sentence deciphering abilities. I agree with William, that sometimes i feel trapped in a passage of a book as if I'm drowning with not knowing what a certain sentence might not mean and how it will affect the rest of the story if i don't understand it. Writers write their material with the purpose of using their full vocabulary, therefore allowing them to structure any sentence in anyway that better fits or pleases them, so i wouldn't be able to agree with William, when she says "Clear thinking becomes clear writing". Writing knows no bounds, therefore the writer shouldn't be limited to the type of material he can write or how he/she should write it and with what words to use. Maybe its are lack of vocabulary or maybe it's the writers conceited ego of excessive vocabulary, either way sometimes the most simplistic material can be hard to understand.

A Way of Writing by William Stafford

The method that , William Stafford, uses to create his writing is something he developed on his own. He describes his way of putting words on the paper as something that should flow like water from all around your body, everything you feel should be accepted and manifested  into words that can describe you and your emotions. Again, this is something he developed through time and experience, of course it sounds easy, but it might not work for everyone. Stafford, explains that absorbing everything that happens from the time that he gets up from bed to the time he sits outside with a pencil most not be interfered with by skill nor legitimate structure of writing, but clearly he has a writing skill and structure that has become a pattern to him. Without this pattern he feels that his writing with be without feeling and richness. What I'm trying to say is, even though you construct the greats building in the world from imagination, the fundamental parts of architecture will always have a big part in the creation. In this case the basics of English write have always been a big part of his work.
